Batman and Robin are still settling into their new roles, and getting used to one another. The first arc in this book is the titular Batman: Reborn – a three-issue story about the return of the bat. And when this comic begins, he’s got his wok cut out for him. So it doesn’t really matter if he’s Bruce Wayne or Dick Grayson – he simply needs to exist to keep Gotham balanced. Batman is a symbol, more than any one man. And it’s clear Morrison knows his stuff when it comes to superheroes. These allow him to dabble in the magical, post-modern, and meta-textual – but at the same time tell a compelling superhero story. I think Morrison’s absolute best work are his stories around the caped crusader. And with it being Grant Morrison, things are going to get weird.īut surprisingly, not that weird. It’s up to this oddball pair to restore order to Gotham. After a brief battle for the cowl (in a comic helpfully titled Battle for the Cowl) Dick Grayson is the new Batman. He’s actually been sent back in time through a complicated series of events involving Darkseid, omega beams, radion bullets… But as far as anyone in Gotham knows, he’s dead. Together again for the first time.”īatman is dead! Or so everybody thinks.
